Personal signs (yard sales, lost pets, etc.) are not to be stapled, nailed, or taped to Newington street signs. If you wish to advertise a yard sale then use your own sign and place it in the ground, not on the wooden street posts. The ARC will fine any person placing placards on the NPEA assets $25.00.
YARD DEBRIS PICKUP
The Town of Summerville picks up leaves on Tuesday. Rake or blow them into the curb area in front of your house. They pick up branches and other yard debris on Wednesday. Leave them in a neat pile in front of your house. Occasionally a street sweeper comes through. Please keep vehicles out of the road so the town can do its job efficiently. For more information about town services, visit www.SummervilleSC.gov.
GARBAGE SERVICE
Carolina Waste began solid waste collection on July 2, 2018 for Town of Summerville residents. Most Newington residents' curbside collection day is Wednesday, but click this link for your street: Garbage Pickup. Carts should be out at the curb by 5:30 a.m. Carts should be placed at least 3 feet apart at curbside. Carolina Waste will collect paper/cardboard recycling same day as garbage collection. Do not place any other material in the recycling cart than paper and cardboard.
Carolina Waste distributed their carts with these instructions: On collection day, place carts with handle towards your house, at least 3 feet apart, and away from vehicles, utility poles or other items that might restrict the garbage truck mechanism. Do not allow your cart to block traffic, mail service or sidewalks. If you move, the cart remains for the next resident. Garbage carts have black lids, the smaller recycling carts have blue lids. Bagging garbage inside the carts will help prevent items from escaping during the tipping process of the garbage truck. Lids must be closed with no additional bags placed on the lid.
Additional information, including a complete schedule for yard debris, garbage, recycling and bulk pickup, is available online at www.SummervilleSC.gov. Residents are urged to follow Summerville, SC Public Works on Facebook for current information. Or call 843-871-6000.
